the circulation counter, once marbled brown now white from years of book slide Proof that all things wear Proof that in friction there’s exchange - A few flecks of formica for a book’s clear coat And as my soul slips across the surface of this library day I pick up memories from childhood - tiny trailing fingers over textured covers and spines and hefting Pooh Bear & Sammy the Seal over a tall ledge of newly marbled brown countertop. |
