Roma

Addie Enyeart
Remember the dark and the deep of the night
There is no way to hide your eyes
We have too much darkness here
There is too much pain for us to revere

Remember when we were young and light

There was once laughing and smiles were bright

No cares were made nor tears were shed

There was no burden to our steps

Remember your lessons from years ago
For we all forgot and were forced to grow
We are all far wiser now
For we now know fate’s fickle brow

Remember the life we had embraced
How people rejoiced when we came their way
Our victories were surpassed by none

And we thought we would never be outdone

Remember the days of glory and praise

When all of our people were proud and well raised

But all of our leaders were fools in the end
And now we must live in the history of men

Remember when our pride ran out
Our worst foes overtook our mounts
No more could we claim our primacy
The days of our glory would be obsolete

Remember the days when our walls fell down
When our screams were heard by all around
When our blood pooled and enriched the ground
Our glorious days vanished never to be found

Remember our days of recovery
When our remains fled out to sea
Our buildings stand haunted and empty

Preserving the place we had once been king

Remember when you lost your tongue
The songs of praises were no longer rung
Soon we may not see the day
Our memory might soon slip away

Remember young fools the land of our youth
For we must now rely on you
To carry on the legends of our glory days

And give life to the stone which is all that remains
