Even if we’re not in love,
I hope I’m your best friend
Who you always spend time with.

And even if we’re not close,
I hope I’m your next door neighbor
Who always lends a helping hand.

And even if you don’t know my name,
I hope I’m the bus driver on your shitty commute
Who always greets you with a warm smile and a good morning.

And even if you don’t see me every day,
I hope I’m the waitress at your favorite diner,
Who always brings your usual and just enough watered-down coffee.

And even if we never met,
I hope I’m the stranger that writes your favorite poem,
One that strikes your heart with such velocity,
It changes how you see the world.

I hope I bring you joy in some capacity.
​I hope I get to be something for you in our next life.
