argument

Carolyn Caines
It all started when I asked a question
and he didn’t reply,

just stared blankly at me
with a far-away look.

No matter what I tried,
he wouldn’t listen to reason.
I decided on a different approach.

You remember where we were yesterday?
He blinked, but wouldn’t go there.
You know my friends?
Amnesia.

I nudged, pleaded, tapped,
and tried every key I could think of
to no avail. He refused.

Finally, I said, Fine. Be that way.
And I sent him packing.
Don’t come back until you have a change of mind.
That ought to make him think things over.

Well, he showed up a few days later,
just sitting on my doorstep.
I let him in to unpack,
hoping our relationship would be refreshed,
with a new drive.  Let’s begin again.

Computer in the house.
